ODA 525
February 24, 1991 – Operation Desert Storm
My dear friend and veteran brother Dan Kostrzebski has served our great country in many ways for his entire life.
Dan served as a US Army Special Forces Green Beret Medic with ODA 525 – Operational Detachment A-Team. This A-Team was dropped into Iraq from Saudi Arabia under the cover of darkness on the eve of the ground war starting. This elite team was hunkered down in a canal observing Iraqi troop movement when they were discovered by children which led to HUNDREDS of Iraqi soldiers coming on the scene. Dan and his team all made it out safely thanks to some help from the US Air Force!
Books have been written about this event and The Military Channel featured an episode where Dan and his teammates were interviewed. I found this episode on Amazon Prime – search for Military Channel series Combat Zone Season 1 Episode 2 “A Tight Spot” – I paid $1.99 for the episode and have watched it several times.
More recently the Hazard Ground Podcast interviewed Dan about that mission. Hazard Ground Episode 140 interviewed the Commander of the mission giving more background from the leader’s perspective. Listening to both give you an idea what this A-Team experienced.
Dan talks about this and other experiences in his book No One Is Fatherless which can be found on this website.
